Shubunkin means 'deep red with different colors' in Japanese. They are long and sleek making them excellent swimmers. They have a large variety of colors including deep red, yellow, dark blue, black and violet. The deeper the color the more valuable the fish.
There are two types of Shubunkins, the Bristol and the London. The main difference is in tail shape. The Bristol's tail is wide and forked. The London's tail is smaller and squared-off in appearance.
These goldfish are hardy enough to tolerate great temperature changes so are ideal for outdoor ponds. They are very strong swimmers and require adequate room to do so.
Also called the Speckled or Harlequin Goldfish.
