The Ryukin Goldfish is the Japanese version if the Fantail. It is also a hardy version of the fancy type goldfish raised in China. Legend has it that they originated in the Ryuku Islands.
The main difference between the Ryukin and the Fantail is the Ryukin have a high arching back that make the dorsal fin extend higher. The back of the Ryukin appears almost to have a hump. The hump is big enough that it is taller vertically than horizontally.
